This week is Carers Week 2019 – a week to highlight all of the fantastic work that is being undertaken by carers across the UK.
At Fairhome Group we understand the important role carers play in ensuring vulnerable people are given the support and care they need. Our aim is to make a difference to people’s lives by providing ‘whole life’ homes made to the best possible standard, and we work with care providers to achieve this.
There are currently around 1.6 million people working in the adult social care sector, with this number set to increase by around 1.2% over the coming year. There are millions more people in the UK who are unpaid carers – those who volunteer or who provide support to family or friends.
According to the NHS, many unpaid carers don’t view themselves as carers and it can take them up to two years to understand the role they play in a vulnerable person’s lives. It is therefore important to recognise carers from all walks of life, and the valuable work they do to provide support.
Did you know?
- The ratio between male/female carers is 18% male and 82% female
- The average age of a care worker is 43-years old
- Unpaid carers are more likely to suffer from mental and physical ill-health
Carers Week 2019 runs from 10th – 16th June.
