Built during the 1960s, Foresters comprises two large semi-detached villas, full of character and full of potential. That’s exactly what we believed when we became aware of this property in Dorset, which had the makings of a fantastic scheme.
Not only were the properties situated close to the town centre of Weymouth, making them highly accessible, they also had the capabilities to provide space for multiple residents. We were keen to bring this building up to date, with new features in classic surroundings, and couldn’t wait to get started.
The conversion of Foresters
Work began on the project in November 2017, converting the buildings into beautiful new spaces suitable for 15 people, living on a shared basis. The renovation was extensive and required our team to strip back the structure to the bare walls, which then allowed for the installation of new equipment and facilities.
Internal areas were redecorated, bathrooms and kitchens were installed and where required, specialist equipment was fitted, including hoists. The properties had to be fit for purpose for future residents, so attention to detail was key.
Due to the history of the building, the property had many unique features and our team were keen to retain these. The features were noted in the designs and preserved during the refurbishment works, to ensure the original look of the building remained, while it was being re-purposed for its next stage in life.
Making a home at Foresters
With work now complete on Foresters, the property provides a home for 15 people and includes mixture of bedroom types with en-suites, a shared open plan communal kitchen and a living room. To complete the project, two garden spaces – situated to the front and back – were given a makeover and these now provide the perfect outdoor retreat for everyone to enjoy.
This was a great project for us and gave us the opportunity to bring these homes back into use for a local care provider, who specialises in care for adults with learning difficulties. This includes those with high dependence physical needs.
Foresters is situated close to local bus routes and shops and is within a half-mile of Weymouth town centre.
